THE STUDIO

For clients working with a contractor on renovations or remodels, we provide design expertise that integrates seamlessly with the construction process. We focus on selections, layouts and visual planning while partnering with your builder to maintain design integrity from concept through completion.

SELECTED WORK — 06

Six remodels from the last three years.

A remodel is finished when the drawings and the room agree.

APPROACH

The design does not stop at the drawing.

Most remodels lose their design in the gap between the rendering and the site — a substituted tile here, a fixture centred by eye there. We close that gap with annotated specifications your builder can actually work from.

CONSULTATION

Tell us about the remodel.

A first consultation runs about ninety minutes, on site. We walk the rooms with you — and with your builder if one is already engaged — and set out where the design decisions need to land in their schedule.

Thank you — we'll be in touch within two business days.

ROLEBuild design
AREA1,240 sq ft
CONSTRUCTION7 months
COMPLETEDMarch 2024

Eight rooms where the house needed three.

Space planning came first: nearly four feet of usable depth sat hidden in furred-out walls and a redundant hall closet. Reclaiming it let the kitchen run uninterrupted along the north wall without touching a bearing element — a plan the builder could price before demolition.

Cabinetry is rift-sawn white oak, specified with elevations and reveal dimensions so the millwork shop and the site never disagreed. The hearth surround is a single slab of honed basalt, templated on site with us present.

Lighting was documented on a reflected ceiling plan so every fixture centres on a cabinet run or a seat — and we were on site the week it was rough-wired.

“They gave our contractor a document for everything. Nothing on site was a guess, and nothing had to be redone.”
